Max’s Seafood Café and Chubby’s Steakhouse announce their participation in the American Littoral Society’s oyster shell recycling program to help rejuvenate New Jersey’s bays and restore its eroding shoreline. The objective of the “Aw, Shucks” program, started by our friend and nature conservationist, Hunter Willoughby-Spera, is to recycle our restaurants’ oyster shells to provide for cleaner waterways. Oysters not only make a delicious meal, they clean-up afterwards! Oysters offer a natural filtration system, eating algae and cleansing up to 50 gallons of water per day. Instead of chucking shucks why not collect the shucks and return them to New Jersey’s bays. The shells provide a necessary substrate for new oysters which, in turn, provide cleaner water, a healthier environment, and more oysters for our oyster lovers! Oysters Rockefeller anyone?
